Social Studies Class
In fourth grade, students focus on early exploration and settlement of the United States. This includes using map skills to construct and interpret historical and current maps. Students will describe and analyze the exploration and early settlement of America by Europeans prior to 1800. They will explain the causes of the American Revolution, including perspectives of each group involved. Students will examine the purpose and roles of government and the historical context for the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. Students will identify and explain the functions of the three branches of the federal government. They will study economics: profits, losses; natural, capital, and human resources; taxes.
